As part of the City’s Graffiti Abatement Program, the City of Calgary Animal & Bylaw Services wants to help residents and businesses keep their private property graffiti free. As a result, City Council approved funding for a cost shared program to assist in the removal of graffiti on private property. The City of Calgary defines graffiti as words, figures, letters, drawings or stickers applied, scribbled, scratched, etched, sprayed or attached on or to a surface. Graffiti is vandalism and therefore a crime that affects the health and safety of our communities.
In order to help property owners remove graffiti, the City has launched a program to assist residential and commercial property owners who are impacted by graffiti.
As outlined in the Community Standards Bylaw the owner will be responsible for removing graffiti from their property. In addition, should a contractor not be able to remove the graffiti due to the nature of the location and/or building material, the owner is responsible for ensuring its removal through other means.
If you wish to participate in The City of Calgary’s Private Property Graffiti Abatement Program, written permission must be obtained in the form of a waiver from the property owner. Please download the form, complete it and and return it to the City at the mailing address listed below. It is also recommended that you fax or e-mail the form to help expedite the process.
